Monthly Comic Picks

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER: SEASON EIGHT #1BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER: SEASON EIGHT #1: I didn't have much hope for this new series when I put it on my que. I've never really been interested in any of the other 'Buffy' comics, and only a mild respect for the TV series, but Joss Whedon keeps the writing and the jokes tight like the series, and the art is actually pretty decent. Something I wasn't counting on and a nice surprise.

WORMWOOD: GENTLEMAN CORPSE #6WORMWOOD: GENTLEMAN CORPSE #6: Still trying to catch up on the plot with this one, but I'm loving the artwork. As much as I enjoyed the Leprechauns, I do have one gripe though, censoring the Leprechaun's wangs?!?! C'mon now, if you can show a decapitation among other acts of violence, I would think you might be able to get away with a little Leprechaun wang, literally.

POPBOT #6POPBOT #6: I am officially a full-fledged Ashley Wood fan. I picked this up since it was offered again, and now have to consider dropping the $45 for the newly released collected volume.

MARVEL ZOMBIES/ARMY OF DARKNESS #1MARVEL ZOMBIES/ARMY OF DARKNESS #1: I missed the first 'Marvel Zombies' series, so I don't know if it ties into this at all, but it's really hard to go wrong with superheroes munching on each other and Ash throwing out one-liners.

JEFFREY BROWN'S FEEBLE ATTEMPTSJEFFREY BROWN'S FEEBLE ATTEMPTS: Jeffrey Brown's 'Feeble Attempts' is a collection of simple, innocent, and funny glimpses into his psyche. Nice stuff, looking forward to seeing more of his work.

DUNGEON PARADE, Vol.1 “A Dungeon Too Many”DUNGEON PARADE, Vol.1 “A DUNGEON TOO MANY”: I've been fascinated with 'Dungeon' ever since I ran across the early issues. I love Lewis Trondheim's playful illustration style (even though I believe it is a guest illustrator on this volume) and the whole thing brings me back to the fun and absurdity of my D&D days.

PIRATES OF CONEY ISLAND #5PIRATES OF CONEY ISLAND #5: I was pretty hesitant about this series at first, but I am really warming to Vasilis Lolos' unique illustration style.

SHAZAM: THE MONSTER SOCIETY OF EVIL #2: SHAZAM: THE MONSTER SOCIETY OF EVIL #2: Once again, anything by Jeff Smith is going to hold my interest for awhile.

X-23: TARGET X # 4X-23: TARGET X # 4: Great artwork, bloody battles, still keeping me interested.
