Hand Wound Monday: Recluse Spider Part 2 of 6

I wish I had the exact time line for the the next pictures, but my father was a little vague about how all this went down. Nevertheless, I present to you, the swelling:

At this point, the finger had essentially burst from swelling too large.

Not pretty, you can't imagine it getting much worse than that, right? Sorry, but we are just getting started...

    If you all had read part 1, you would know that his father passed of a heart attack a year ago; this is six months before the passing.

    Still, I can't believe how much he let this progress; I thought the abscess on my leg was bad when I got it :X

    Eeeew. Grotesque. Painful. So why do I keep looking at it? I look, cringe, look again. Feel empathy pains, look again. I've gotta believe your dad is someplace better, smiling, laughing, whole.

    Yes, my father was a very stubborn man. Honestly, since I was in Michigan and he was in Arizona while this occured, I don't know if this was before or after he sought medical assistance or the extent of the doctors care. But, I can tell you, it gets much worse.

    Recluse spiders are nasty as you can see in these photos. I had one bite me on one of my legs. I'm ok now and the muscle that got rotted is filling in nicely.

    I hope the same happens for your Pop but it will take time. I got bit over ten years ago and its taken this long to have the area fill back in so as to not be obvious that it ever happened.

    Wah you can still save him from pain.

    Place Nicotine patches around the wound, as close as you can.

    Brown recluse spider poison necrologies local tissue by constricting blood flow by tightening up the local blood vessels.

    Nicotine patches loosens those up. I am serious, not making this or a old wives tale.

    that article you linked directly contradicts your statement that nicotine would help loosen up the constricted blood vessels. what gives?

    Necrotic wounds are notoriously misdiagnosed as brown recluse spider bites. If you think you have a brown recluse spider bite, you should make sure you don’t have something else that can be more easily treated. http://spiders.ucr.edu/necrotic.html there is not much you can do for a necrotizing brown recluse wound except keep it free of infection and let it run its course.

    I had a necrotizing brown recluse spider bite on my thigh a couple of years ago so I did a lot of reading on this subject to figure out how to prevent this from happening to my kids. I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that there are tens of thousands of unseen spiders on the average house lot. We live with them every day we just rarely see them. More bad news…. in regions where brown recluse spiders live, there are may documented cases where 2000+ brown recluse spiders have been collected from a single house. Now for the good news… even though these brown recluse spiders can be quite common in specific areas, and many people live in close proximity to literally thousands of them, brown recluse spider bites are exceedingly rare. You are more likely to win the lottery than get a brown recluse spider bite.

    If you regularly play the lottery and think you have a reasonable chance of winning, I apologize for overloading you with information. I have probably made things much worse for you. Every time you reach into your pocket or purse to check the numbers on your lotto ticket, you will probably think… “I’d better be careful… I could just as likely be bitten by a brown recluse as win with this ticket! Dude… it’s like 50-50.” My advice… Why chance it; the only reasonable solution is to move to a lotto state where there are no brown recluse spiders.
